Jaipur, the Pink City, is part of the Delhi–Agra–Jaipur Golden Triangle. Its main sights are close enough for a single day with an early start.

Amber Fort

A hilltop fort-palace about 11 km from Jaipur, begun in 1592 by Raja Man Singh I, with courtyards, gates and the mirrored Sheesh Mahal. It is part of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan UNESCO World Heritage Site (2013). Go early to avoid the crowds and heat.

City Palace and Jantar Mantar

The City Palace, built from about 1729 to 1732 under Sawai Jai Singh II, is partly a museum and partly still a royal residence. Jantar Mantar, beside it, is an observatory of large stone instruments built in the early 1730s and inscribed by UNESCO in 2010.

Hawa Mahal

The five-storey pink sandstone facade with hundreds of small latticed windows was built in 1799 by Sawai Pratap Singh. It faces east, so morning light is best.
