Before you plan anything
- The Taj Mahal is closed to visitors on Fridays.
- Timings, ticket prices and entry rules change, so check the official source before you go.
- Rules on bags, tripods, professional equipment, commercial shoots and drones apply at the monument. Confirm them with the official source.
Why sunrise
Early light is softer, the marble changes colour as the sun rises, and the garden is usually less crowded than later in the day. In winter, fog can hide the monument in the early morning, so keep your plans flexible.
Two ways to see it at first light
- Inside the monument: the Great Gate, the charbagh garden, the long water channel and the marble platform.
- From Mehtab Bagh: a garden on the opposite bank of the Yamuna with a view of the Taj Mahal across the river.
Where a guide or photographer helps
A local guide explains the history, the inlay work and the calligraphy, and helps you find your way. A local photographer knows where the light falls and how to frame the monument around the crowds. On Myna24 you can book either by the hour or for a day, see free dates on a calendar, and pay a 10% booking fee online with the rest paid directly to them.
